Two Sad Churches
1/18/1993
Adapted from a poem by John Knapp II (permission to use obtained)
Oh me ah, oh my ah, oh me ah, oh my ah,
There once was a lampstand in old Thyatira
The church in that city was not very good
Yet, the church in that city was not very bad
They were patient and loving and full of good works
Yet, sadly they held on to one fatal quirk
They still worshipped idols they would not resist
And as a result, God’s blessing they missed
These sometimes disciples were not very smart
They only loved Jesus with part of their heart
Oh my ah, oh me ah, oh my ah, oh me ah
There once was a lampstand in Laodicea
The church in that city was not very bad
Yet, the church in that city was not very good
The christians in Lao were just in-between
No longer dirty, yet not fully clean
They only were average, in a rut they were stuck
So when Jesus took one look, He simply said YUCK!
These lukewarm believers were not very smart
They only loved Jesus with part of their heart
So, listen my children and you will be smart
Be sure to love Jesus with all of your heart
